Trauma at the Traffic Department

27 03 2008

Update:  Well for the past 2 days i’ve been trying to change the registration of my car.  Quietly confident on the first day I drove to the Traffic department in my lunch hour.  Unfortunately I couldn’t find the place and as a result had to return to work after 45mins of driving around unsuccessfully.

Day 2:  I go with Chris who knows where it is and to my annoyance, I had driven past it about 3 times the day before.  The reason I didn’t spot the place was because it is signposted “Airport Traffic Department”.  This is because it is beside the airport rather than as I thought, a department dealing with Airport Traffic.  I don’t know who was being stupid there…

Anyway, we get into the place and join the queue and after about 5 mins we get to speak to the clerk.  This woman seems to be willing us to have forgotten to bring something so she can tell us to get lost and the disappointment is evident in her voice when I have the full list of items.  Except one thing.  A form in Arabic which we MUST get typed by a man in a small hut behind the building.  He is closed and tells us we must come back between 3pm and 8pm.  Great, so after work. Fine no problem.

I go after work and find he is closed.   Damn, now I’m getting frustrated.   And the pressure is on as Chris leaves today and has a million better things to go than hang around in traffic department.  He also HAS to be there in person to sort this out!!

I’ll let you know how it goes…

Hahaha. Life in developing countries. You kind of get used to it. Kind of.
